No Solo

I’ve always known that anything significant can never be done solo. As I (re)discover running I’m discovering community anew. I don’t think I overlook its importance, but I’m challenged to appreciate it more.

Community helped me prepare for my first marathon. Of course, I put in the work. And I did the running myself. But without other people sharing their journey and challenging me to be better I might have given myself an easy pass.

For my first marathon, it was the community I found @fullsend.running, which helped, a lot. And, in case you missed it, I’ve started training for my first ultra, the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. A 56.6-kilometre race in Cape Town. I cannot imagine a more beautiful and challenging scenery for a running road race.

Again, as I prepare for my first ultra-marathon, I’m grateful for the community. I grateful for people like @erin_groll@heiniboonzaaier and @mikeobery who chose to be catalysts for community.

I’m grateful for people who inspire and challenge me to be better at each run by sharing the kilometres on the long runs. More than the kilometres shared, but their stories.

Shout out to Asics & TotalSports for their contribution to the running community.
